Cadets earn honors at PAJS Region 1A Science Fair
Mar 05, 2025
Two Valley Forge Military Academy cadets received recognition for their projects at the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science Region 1A Science Fair held at E.T. Richardson Middle School in Springfield, Pa. on Saturday.
Junior Thomas Thornburg received first place honors for his engineering of a liquid propelled rocket. Freshman Isaac Chapple earned second place honors for his engineering of a lightweight bullet proof vest.
“I’ve liked rockets pretty much my whole life, airplanes too,” Cadet Thornburg said. “I want to be an aerospace engineer and plan to go to college for it. … For a long, long time, liquid rockets have been deemed too complicated, too expensive, too dangerous, so I attempted to disprove that. It didn’t go too well, but I did gather a basis for which an experiment for next year might succeed.
Cadet Thornburg will travel to the PJAS state meeting, which takes place May 18-20 at Pennsylvania State University’s main campus in State College, Pa.
“There were some pretty cool projects at this level, and I’m excited for what I’ll see up there,” Cadet Thornburg said.
