Track: Cadets are Tearing Up the Track!

The spring season means that VFMA Cadets are tearing up the track – figuratively, of course. The season is underway with a team of 25 Cadets and outstanding senior leadership.

Cadets Simon Ndi and Dylan Potts lead the sprint group. Cadet Alastor Barrabes leads the field events, and Cadets Alexander Christensen and Nathan Nantasai lead the distance runners.

“VFMA can be very proud of the team,” said Coach Aaron Barkley. “They practice hard in all weather and help each other get stronger and better.” Coach Barkley predicts next year to be just as solid.

“Looking ahead, there is promising talent at the underclassmen level with Cadet Sean Cargill and William Clark in the sprints, and Cadets Chase Daniel and Egor Porkhun in the distance events,” he said.

With the season at the halfway point, some major competitions are still to come. The track team will participate in the prestigious Penn Relays, one of the oldest and best-known events in the U.S. The team will have a 4×100 and 4×400 relay compete there.  Also, the entire team will compete in the BAL (Bicentennial Athletic League) Invitational and the BAL Championships in mid-May. “Our goal and expectation are to have some of our individuals and relay teams qualify for the PIAA District 1 Championship Meet in late May,” said Coach Barkley.
